About Us

Aspiemum was born in 1967, as a normal kid in a bunch of five. I went to normal school, and led a normal, but a bit solitary life, being liked by friends, but not always understanding my peers.

After having a severe depression, starting in 1998, I was eventually tested for and given the diagnosis Asperger Syndrome.

This helped explain a few of the issues that had bothered me. I knew everyone felt odd and misunderstood at times, but I now knew people got offended by things I did with nothing but good intentions. I provoced people, and I never understood why and how.

I realized my late mum must have had AS, and also her brother.

Aspiekid, Hannah, has  different name but was born in the late 1990’s.

She was a bright intelligent little kid, talkative, funny, and highly demanding! In grade two, at age 9, we asked for help for her recurring headaches.

I claimed we wanted to see a physiotherpist, since I thought it was tension headaces: One could see how her neck must be very tense, since she did these “stretchy” things with her neck, pulling her chin up, and pressing out her jaw, and looking a bit like an alian…

The incredibly accurate school doctor looked at my charade, looked at Hannah, and wrote me a note.

“This is wht I think it is”, she said. The note said Tourette Syndrome. She was right. And, as we went out, I turned and asked about Hannas tummy. “Lactose intolerance”, she replied.

After that, life got better. Having Hanna checked by an understanding doctor who could nme wht I already knew, made the environment more understanding.

I had told them she needed to have certain things explained in a special way. They found me odd and overprotective.

With the magical words “She has Tourette, she can’t sieve the sensations she gets into her system, or altogether control what comes out”, we could get the school teacher to allow her a set desk in the class room rather than move every second week. And so on.

After I had my AS-diagnosis, I went on to have her rechecked for hers. We didn’t need it earlier due to good teachers, but it became more evident she would benefit from it.

At age 11 or 12 she had it on paper.
